Here are some photos of the great hotel and neighborhood we got to know and love here in Shoreditch when we weren’t out exploring the rest of London:

Everywhere in the Underground, you’re reminded to mind the gap. It’s effective, we did watch out for the sometimes big steps getting on and off...

...although this is the future. Walls in front of the tracks, with sliding doors that line up with those in the train. This is only on some lines so far, but makes a big difference in how safe the busier platforms feel.

London was very clean - even the garbage trucks were shiny. Cars and trucks inside the city have to meet stricter emissions limits than regular vehicles (and there are fees for using a car at all), so we didn’t see any vintage cars at all.

We never found out when these hand-painted signs first appeared in crosswalks, but it seems to have been well before the 2012 Olympics. It’s such a friendly way to help visitors.
